Dos Mio

So, I’ve been working on a very long and rather involved short story lately. I’m planning on using this one as some sort of, something…Perhaps as something that gets printed by some magazine. Although, I’ll need a secretary of sorts to get the actual mailing and address getting done for me. Either way, this story is the most involved, and perhaps (it’s not done yet) most impressive thing I’ve ever written. We’ll see. I’ll put it on the LS when it’s done.

That, and my beloved Orlando Magic have made it to the Finals. Tonight they broke my heart in spectacular fashion, as they have at least a half-dozen times in the playoffs. Although this one was the death knell. But it was a great season, and wow, there a lot more Magic fans then I ever realized (true story: I showed up 45-minutes before a regular season game back in February, and the stands were so empty they actually let me play shooting guard for eight minutes in the 3rd quarter. My line was 1-3, 3 points, and one assist).

Plus, and this is my usual excuse, not much has been going on the in the political world other then the usual bullshit. It’s no secret that I keep The Long Sunset more refreshed in an election season. Or when I’m traveling, and I haven’t left Florida in almost a full year. So things have been on a once a month basis.

By the way, on a political note, here’s all I’ll say about Bam Obama’s job so far. We’ll remember him, in part, for three incredible speeches he’s given in the last eight months. That’s three more then the past three presidents have given combined. The first was his brilliant and honest “I’m a Black Guy” speech that he gave just before becoming president. The second was more impressive, and it came during his presidency, when he calmly sliced apart the far-right with his “We Should Have Abortions but I Don’t Like Them” Notre Dame commencement speech. That speech was brutal. There’s nothing better then making your opposition look like the raving lunatics they are. In fact, I think there’s a fair chance that this speech alone will keep women in control of there vaginas for at least another 25-years.

And finally, this past week he dropped his latest track on the streets of Cairo. His “Now That I’m Elected I’m a Muslim Speech”, was (trying not to get into hyperbole) heroic. We’ll never blow up all the insane people in the world. The Child President (and Cheney, and fuck, don’t get me started on Cheney) never did and never will understand this. But the truth is, the only way to gain control of sanity on this planet is to keep the people that are on the fence of extremism and, well religious craziness, on our side (by our side I mean those who would not like to see the Earth degrade into a strange half-monkey civil war). So you’ve got to talk to them, you’ve got to treat them like adults, and it was amazing to see a president that actually did it.

Now MSNBC wanted to credit Obama with an assist on the Lebanon elections, but let’s not go that far. Let’s just say it’s nice to have a smart president. Sometimes, because of our age, or perhaps it’s always been like this, we slight things now that later get framed as momentum switching acts of valor. But you have to give the guy credit. And a hundred years from now, it’ll probably be Obama that they talk about in their floating moon-based History I classes.
